MSC archived stories - March 22, 2020
At a time like now when people are distancing from each other, though particularly challenging in countries like India with dense populations, I thought it's important to keep social interaction one way or another to stay not only physically healthy but mentally also.
The new Sperber CC was declared open for some 2,500 children of Quito, Ecuador this past month (February). The inauguration ceremony where south-American dancers wearing colorful traditional clothing and face mask had striking similarity to one you will find in south-Asian devil dance in Sri Lanka. I believe these dances are performed to appease evil spirits and bring good luck and fortune to new beginnings.
When it comes to invisible threat from diseases like the COVID-19, practicing good hand hygiene is one thing but I also like to think rituals too can bring blessing to our world (more than the news headlines), so enjoy!

The Ecuadorian cultural dance took me right back to my childhood going to see annual 'Devol Madu' festival, otherwise known as 'Shanthikarmaya' with 100s of people gathered to watch throughout the night till dawn to receive blessings – beliefs that I cultivated as a child :)
