The anticipated recent DP follow-up has arrived this week followed by a 'CR' letter, in fact almost 2 identical from Niza, the mom of twin sisters – Joana and Ixayana.

 

The two girls are now just over 3.5yo and live with their elder sister (age 4) and mom in Jalisco. A female dominant family with no father figure around – except grandfather, who lives in Tijuana at Mexico-US border (1,172 miles away) and me across the North Atlantic Ocean.

 

The package was shipped via UPS Express (door-to-door) service to arrive in 3-5 days. 3 days later the tracker alerted me to Mexico customs holding it up pending import tax charge, which I then paid. The package was delivered on December 20 and the signed receipt acknowledged.

 

The family visited the CC (4 days after spending Christmas with granddad) to pick up the gift. As always, Joana is over the moon, yet Ixayana seems flummoxed. If I have to pick a favourite child from my entire sponsorship life, it's got to be Ixayana. I know, Joana would hate me to single her out, but through Ixayana reminds of my own childhood. Mom said, for Christmas they both wrote for Santa Claus asking for a stroller, a crying baby and a Barbie doll. Now, I know what they must be thinking of me! Santa will have his work cut out to change her pouty face next time.

 

Nevertheless, they honoured my request and wore a few clothes, including Christmas socks (photos/letter added to media). But, what captivated me the most is the welcoming and cleanliness of the Tlajomulco CC in Chulavista, a safe haven, thanks to the DP photos, and the colourful letter templates they use.

    They are both so cute!! One of them was really having fun.. not sure what went in her sister mind.. so funny to see the difference

    I think they are fraternal twins, same as any other siblings, but special just happened to be born at the same time – no difference to sponsoring 2 siblings, which is first for me.

    Very thoughtful presents for the twins! They are indeed saying thanks as individuals. I’m amused Niza writes in the CR letter Ixayana is “a very happy girl.” Of course she is and she gets to express it her way. These two are going to love growing up with you as their sponsor. Looking forward to more!

    Ixayana may have had a lot of crying that morning before arriving at CC to find her sponsor's surprise gift, which is difficult to contain after all that crying! That's how I felt.

MSC archived stories -  January 1, 2019 In accordance with Guatemalan tradition, Katerin took a year break from school – just before I met her to celebrate quinceañera (girl celebrating her 15th birthday). She is now one and a half years away from graduating from the CI program. She is full of hopes for the future and determined to do well in studies, even though there were some setbacks in her academic performance in the past, as revealed in Education Report (ER). The ER, however stated that  “we do not recommend the sponsor send extra contribution for Katerin’s education since the risk that she will not be responsible is high.”    I simply could not believe or accept this premise because I trusted her to do well when she came into my care in early 2017.
