MSC archived stories - March 9, 2024
When Mairani's Family Record last updated in July 2023, her favourite subjects at school was mentioned as science/electronics. A girl, age 13 interested in science caught my attention to make a memo inquiry and a list of items that would facilitate her desires (e.g. something she really wants to try making but unable to afford to buy components). Mairani's enthusiasm in this field what matters, so if staff can explore this would be a treat for me too!
With my agreement to fund her new school year as well, off the memo on the way to Nina Rae Wesson CC, Jalisco. In 3wks later, I received the following reply:
"The sponsored child's mother states that Mairani is studying 8th grade in middle school, she has several subjects focused on science, such as physics and chemistry in which they have done experiments and these two subjects have caught her attention. She let us know that she does not have any books and she would like to have a couple of them and she would also like to have some toys or games where she can do experiments. At the moment, for school, she still needs some school supplies and tennis shoes, the estimated budget for the items that she would need for school plus some things about science would be: Tennis Shoes, School supplies, Three science books, Chemistry Game.”
Funds were released for this special education EG in October. The follow-up took over 4 months to arrive but there is reason, which I only was able to guess from Mairani's message of thanks (added to media). It sounded as part of the funds must have been given to the family to purchase school supplies, and the rest kept by staff to fulfil my special request to cover science items. The staff must have done the shopping for it before inviting Mairani to receive the gifts as they were sent by me! From the moment that staff making the decision to take care of science items by themselves without the child/family involved in shopping is first I heard of an EG donation. I don't have words to thank them enough for such devotion of care.
This is my way of celebrating birthday today by sharing such remarkable staff working for CI.
What an awesome way to celebrate your birthday. Like you, I think that Mairani's love of science is FANTASTIC, and at 13 there is no peer pressure in her life and if there is, she is strong enough to stand up to it and pursue her interests. I look forward to hearing about her pursuits in this area and how far it takes her. Thank you for sharing and you are right, this is a great birthday gift!!!

So happy that you are investing in and inspiring Mairani's love for science through her birthday EG! Like bernies I hope to hear more updates about her and her endeavors and hope she continues to pursue her love for science!

Thank you! The staff decision to take part ownership of EG not just delighted Mairani but me too. My birthday did also fall on Mothering Sunday, so watched a high-school play in film called "The Story Of Mother's Day". I feel that sometimes CI staff anonymising decisions for the sake of children in care is very much like mothers making for her child. [youtu.be/4axBtY_j0nc]
