“Her Name is Today”

MSC archived stories - September 3, 2024

My darling 'dhuwa' Joana and Ixayana are back on (computer) screen to delight my world and yours! They are anxiously waiting for my first letter, so think it's time to break my silence.

As they are getting used, I feel that EG to them is nothing else but time for shopping.. let’s go sister! Both are truly enjoying the moment, yet Ixayana with never goes away shyness or bemused expression on her face.

Thinking of them reminds… Gabriela Mistral (1889-1957), a Chilean poet and Chile's first Nobel Prize laureate in Literature. She is most widely quoted in English for Su Nombre es Hoy ("His Name is Today"):

"We are guilty of many errors and many faults, but our worst crime is abandoning the children, neglecting the foundation of life. Many of the things we need can wait. The child cannot. Right now is the time his bones are being formed, his blood is being made, and his senses are being developed. To him we cannot answer ‘Tomorrow,’ his name is today."

The best assurance I have is that they are cared for and nurtured well at the CC during crucial time of their development.

Until next episode of my twin mania, how interesting to see mom, Niza bought identical dolls for her ‘fraternal’ twins. (follow-up added to media)

  5. Thanks for sharing your love. I wanted to highlight a serious point here. In both photos the two children wore different outfits from each other, yet mum chose identical dolls to symbolise 'twins'. As I see, treating them in one way different and another way identical could be quite confusing to little brains. The fraternal twins should be able to enjoy both differential and identical aspects of their lives blend together rather than separately. I'm working on a DP just to show how it can be achieved.. stay tuned!

  6. Rachel, I'm not sure what you meant.. (explain). How would you see if we were to treat 'identical twins' (aka monozygotic twins) differently? Joana and Ixayana are okay with it because they aren't identical.

  8. Chelaka. I think it is goed that they are not always dress the same.. But for toys no problem if they have the same.. they can personalize it later.I have myself 2 children (no twins) and sometimes when byuing them things they do ask the exact same thing.. on purpose just because it is fun to have each one the same toy..

  9. Thanks Marie. Fascinating... yours have the total freedom to flip/flop, do whatever to the same toy to make their own. Is that true with twins? To illustrate my point, psychologically speaking twins share everything to some degree – mine perhaps only 1% whereas monozygotic 99%. Like, drawing 2 circles (size equivalent to, say age), either completely separately (representing yours) or with some overlap (twins). In my view, the twins live with mutual regards to each other. For example, when I start writing to them and trying to describe my city, I'd use one way for Joana and another way to Ixayana, but the same city! They will then see the beauty from each others perspective. More to come in the next episode :-)

Pause for Thought! – The value of sponsorship

MSC archived stories - March 2, 2019 As we know the sponsorship does not demand us to write, send special needs or extra gifts to our children, but being a "silent" sponsor does your monthly contribution bring real value (for money) – especially if you live outside the USA, you or CI don't even get tax benefits of your charitable donation? Is this because most sponsors can't afford anymore than the monthly fee to sponsor a child or trust CI so much that they do not feel needing to play an active role in their sponsored child(ren)'s lives to have an impact?   The sponsorship rewards both sponsor and the child through exchange of letters. Then we have social media platforms, like MSC to share our experiences with fellow sponsors – all can be done for free and bring closer understanding of each other and building friendships for life!   But above all sponsorship motivates your child to attend their community center more often not only for letter reading/writing but a...

As the 2022 draws to a close..

My life devoted to helping the children of this world started exactly 17 years ago on this day with Children International. Initially I was looking for a child sponsorship program through UK based organisation because every $ or £ I donate the UK government would have added 25% on top (as opposed to less Income Tax taken off from your earnings in the USA). In other words, living and working in the UK, yet supporting a charity outside the country won't have any tax benefits to either myself or CI. It was a big decision for me personally. I did my research and decided to go with CI and another international program based here for a year just to compare the services. CI stood up to my expectations despite losing that extra governmental support. It was very different or (should I say) the golden time of this organisation. Today, my sponsorship world spans across 3 continents with CI and 3 other local NGOs based in Bhutan and Sri Lanka. In fact my Bhutanese sponsorship inspired by a sto...

Visit to Mundo Petapa

After our long awaited reunion voyage, I thought taking back down the memory lane to remember times of joy CI sponsorship brought to us all. The younger sister, Nicole, niece, grandmother and the parents joined Estephanie to celebrate her 9th birthday anniversary at Mundo Petapa , an amusement park in Guatemala City. This park was inaugurated over four decades ago. There the family discovered various fun activities, especially being enjoyed by the father gave enormous boost to excitement, along with a break for the main event in the cafeteria – what a memorable day made possible by the staff at CI Mariscal! (photos added to my SCS blog ) As I learn about the family closely now, they are not just fun loving but well known and respected in the community. I'm full of admiration for their advocacy by getting children involved in every aspect of life. And Estephanie being 'ahijada' (goddaughter) is a very special honor any sponsor can ever dreamed for. Today, my care in h...
