My beloved and irreplaceable Karla from Mexico along with her sister (another sponsor's) had to sadly leave the program recently because the family could not spare enough time to sponsorship responsibilities with their ever increasing commitments to the family business of pottery making.

 

Karla's studies hugely affected by the pandemic and even at age 9 when she left she could not read or write. I was very keen to turn this around, but out of the blue I'm thrown into the darkest cosmic universe looking down on beautiful 'dhuwa' in my thoughts and prayers.

 

India waiting list used to be one of the largest CI always had but what's happened now..? If you ask me the most rewarding experience I get out being a sponsor is that the rich and diversity of cultures the children inherited, in particular India, soon to become the most populous land on earth.

    There is some kind of issue with the India program right now. I've been waiting for several weeks to add the last child I had bookmarked and they haven't been able to do it. The Care Team won't explain what the problem is, just that they are only able to add the few children on the waiting list at the moment. It's all very strange and I wish they would just be up front about what the problem is.

    I am so sorry about Karla leaving the program, that had to hurt your heart a little. Wishing her and her family all the best in the future.

    One of my sponsored kids left the program years ago and I still wonder why. I was never told why, but surmised that it was due to the time required to maintain her sponsorship. She only had a Mom who ran a store so it was probably difficult to spend the time on getting her daughter to the center for the required programs.

    It's sad for any sponsor when their child leaves the program early, but it's important to respect their privacy and the rights, wishes, and decisions of their parents and families. The sponsor can request that CI try and find out why they left, but that doesn't necessarily means CI can (or should) always pass on that information unless they have permission. Sometimes families move without even informing CI.

Highlight of my 2018:

MSC archived stories -  January 1, 2019 In accordance with Guatemalan tradition, Katerin took a year break from school – just before I met her to celebrate quinceañera (girl celebrating her 15th birthday). She is now one and a half years away from graduating from the CI program. She is full of hopes for the future and determined to do well in studies, even though there were some setbacks in her academic performance in the past, as revealed in Education Report (ER). The ER, however stated that  “we do not recommend the sponsor send extra contribution for Katerin’s education since the risk that she will not be responsible is high.”    I simply could not believe or accept this premise because I trusted her to do well when she came into my care in early 2017.
