Nelson waited for 5yrs before starting to receive his sponsorship benefits when he came into my care in May. He never had a sponsor or exposed to an experience afar, and this week I received his mum’s response to my WL (added to My Media), in which she sounded totally overwhelmed.
For me, in the absence of your physical presence in the child’s life, the support of immediate family members, who care as much as you do, is vital. Being a sponsor is much more than the gifts I send, but the learning we share from each other – knowledge, hard-work and attitude.
At a young age (9), Nelson’s wanting to study English shows his understanding of ever closer world we live in today. The DR is the largest growing economy in the western hemisphere.
To encourage him on this learning, I thought sharing somewhat coincidental weighting put on the aforementioned three words in English language. Our ‘attitude’ towards people, places, things, or situations determines the choices that we make – 100% true, but I wonder how children will shape their future based on our way of thinking as sponsors with both positive and negative outcomes.
Thank you for this funny word and number game.. you are such an inspiration! I am sure each of your children enjoy your spirit. Nelson waited a very long time but now look who is smiling! He got himself a great sponsor for the next years..

Nelson may have had a long wait for the benefits of sponsorship but now his wait is richly rewarded by having your guidance and commitment!

Thank you! I certainly feel the blessing of the family. To my inquisitive mind, there are 3 ways to position ourselves in respect to the child/family: a) sponsor – child – family; b) child – family – sponsor; c) family – sponsor – child. Each of us has our own way of fitting in with this relationship to have an influence in child's future, and I prefer (b).
