Let their creativity shine!

As most schools around the world are shut at present, thought asking my children to take part in 10 fun activities and challenges during this time or even school holidays. This is to see what they enjoyed doing the most and how they did in each task.

 

  1. Pick a random object and write a story about it coming to life. (e.g. my story dated April 02, 2018 titled "If you were a coin..")
  2. Choose your favorite song and make up a dance that matches the words/rhyme.
  3. Count how many Star jumps you can do in 1 minute.
  4. Imagine you were asked to tell in front of a classroom what you want to be when you grow up for as many years as you were minutes alive. (e.g. if you're age 8, say it in no less than 8 minutes!)
  5. Describe each one of your family members in no more than 6 words, including 'My'. (e.g. My beacon of light!)
  6. Can you find 26 items that begin with every letter of the English alphabet in your house or Community Center?
  7. Write your own inspirational quote or sentiments of life and put up in big letters on a piece of paper pinned onto the wall. (e.g. Listen to your inner being)
  8. Pick an insect you see around and learn about it using Google Search at your Computer Lab.
  9. Fill in a transparent jar with stones, giving value to one in your currency and compare it to others, and then calculate the total savings made. (e.g. my story dated March 31, 2019 suggesting it to Juliana)
  10. Draw a picture of your sponsor, write something about him/her and send it. (e.g. drawing done by Estephanie when she was 7, saying "Tekiero Chelaka" – I framed it, still standing on my bookshelf)

Can you think of anything else to add? Of course, any age child can participate and you may try it on your child too.

 

Giving a child an education is fundamental to my sponsorship as much as it’s for CI. If a child shows any signs of disliking school, it’s never their fault but show them many interesting other things to do in life, so that they can start to think seriously. They’re explorers by nature, and finding answers are all up to them!

 

In addition, you can ask CI for your child’s Benefits Report, which gives all activities they attended since enrollment, previous to current year for you to gauge their interests/skills – far more reliable than what they write to you in letters.

DP to Zambia

MSC archived stories -  January 18, 2025 Usually the turnaround time for DP is 4 weeks. It's been a month to next Sunday (Jan 26th) since UPS collected and successfully delivered my DPs to Dulce and the twins. Two years later, last night Simon appeared in my profile as a grown up man. As we aren't getting follow up photos from Zambia anymore, for the first time thought trying DPs to Faith and Simon there, so they will have to come to CC to collect it, where the staff will have a camera to take photos. I remember Zambia used to have the whole family gatherings for EG photoshoot out. So, are there anything special they would be more excited receiving? For example, a football or cricket bat & ball set for Simon, and for Faith.. (no idea!.. may be something to make her elegant hairstyle she has in the latest photo..?). Help me make the list, of course, I don't want to make staff jealous

Pause for Thought! – The value of sponsorship

MSC archived stories - March 2, 2019 As we know the sponsorship does not demand us to write, send special needs or extra gifts to our children, but being a "silent" sponsor does your monthly contribution bring real value (for money) – especially if you live outside the USA, you or CI don't even get tax benefits of your charitable donation? Is this because most sponsors can't afford anymore than the monthly fee to sponsor a child or trust CI so much that they do not feel needing to play an active role in their sponsored child(ren)'s lives to have an impact?   The sponsorship rewards both sponsor and the child through exchange of letters. A step in a higher level journey

Estephanie is my former sponsored child through Children International, whom I cared for four and a half years since she was just 6yrs old. She is a gifted and bright child brought up in a loving family of four in Guatemala. Her abrupt departure from the sponsorship program in June 2019 was totally unexpected, even though I was acutely aware of their situation in the family a s well as the city leading up to this moment. Estephanie is not just any sponsored child, but someone who changed my life forever devoting to children in need. For that reason, I call her ‘my miracle little princess’ and she calls me ‘padrino’ (her godfather). In August 2020, fourteen months after her leaving CI, we met again and reunited with the family. It was our momentous encounter of this lifetime. The family has moved on leaving everything behind to start a new life abroad.
