As sponsors we embrace each of our children as blessed and very special. A recent letter from Luz (added to media), age 13 in Mexico motivated me to mimic her hand-writing but on my keyboard, then use Google to translate in order to understand what exactly she was talking in case if the translation was misinterpreted. Would you agree it was on getting her first menstrual cycle?
I wrote back..

Dear Luz, It was lovely to read your letters, and to learn that you have a very supportive family around. To have a caring 'dhuwa' (daughter) like you gives me hope that you will not give up your ambitions willingly. As you enter a new phase of your life, I wish you all the happiness and smiles in this new journey.
I'm glad that your in-classroom lessons just resumed at school. After 2 years of lockdown and working from home, I also started travelling twice a week to my workplace in the city of Glasgow - takes about 40min by public transport from where I live. Even though I have seen significant improvement in my productivity when working from home, seeing colleagues when we meet in real life is something else. Like if you drop a steel ball in water it sinks to the bottom, but if you craft and make a plate out of the same steel ball and drop in the water it will float! I know you feel the same meeting with your teachers and friends again. Is your Jacqueline Byer Dial Center reopened yet and what do you enjoy doing the most at the Center?
Lastly, I like telling stories to get you thinking.. 7 blind men tried to describe something by their own touch and feel, and insisted that they each were right about this object. The first blind man said it's a snake; second blind man said it's a farmer's plough; third blind man said it's a palm-leaf fan; fourth blind man said it's a large water jar; fifth blind man said it's a huge rock; sixth blind man said it's a tree trunk; and the last blind man said it's a fly-whisk. The seven men started arguing so heatedly and fighting their own individual truth, all else being wrong, but if you were told that everyone is telling the truth can you tell me what this is?
The story inspires us all to respect everyone's opinion by talking to each other.
Take care! Love, Chelaka

ReplyDeleteNo it's not! Just google what is a conformation in Mexico. It's a sacrament by which Catholics receive a special outpouring of the holy spirit that is usually made between the ages of 7-18.

Ah.. Thanks Barb. I never heard it before!

What Barb wrote. Another part of Confirmation is choosing a saints name to add to your own. The chosen Saint is like deciding the type of life you want to lead. So be careful choosing Jesus or Mary, you may end up with that type of life

Love the story Chelaka. I think I’ll be using it. Thanks.

Hi Chelaka, in latin american countries children do the 1rst communion arround 7/8 years old and the confirmation arround 12, as part of the catholic believe. You must have your 1rst communion in order to proceed with the confirmation. They wear pretty clothes and there is a formal ceremony in the church for both occasions..

Thanks all.. well informative remarks. It was a lightbulb moment for me to realize that I was wrong yet felt safe to admit because of CI secular culture!
