For as long as 6 years of sponsoring children from the Spanish speaking world has taught me a few words. And one being "mi padrino" (my godfather) but the letters we receive from them often translate this into "my sponsor". I usually don't bother with the original Spanish writing at the start but yesterday when I received Mairani's letter (added to media), by off chance a familiar term caught my eye. It's very special how your child sees you, not only as a sponsor but godparent in their lives. So, even if you don't know the language, you might just spot some spoken words by your child in their native tongue.
Morelia is a Spanish colonial city in Mexico, 158 miles to the South-East from Guadalajara where Mairani lives. She told me before of visiting her grandmother's ranch there in 2019 to celebrate the 9th birthday. I asked about it in my latest letter and she wanted to tell me about unicorns! Why.. because in the same year I sent her a dress from Scotland with this mythical creature printed on the front (she wore it for the follow-up) and now I know her grandmother too gave her a dress like it.
While this may be a coincidence, to this day her wonderful thought of relating that occasion 3 years ago to the dress from the godfather made me feel how special she is. You are living fondly in their memories, delving into the magnificence of unicorns!
Well, unicorns ARE magnificent!!Such a sweet girl, and love this small peek into your sponsor child’s life :)

ReplyDeleteI'm thinking any little girl (especially one from a Spanish speaking country) would love getting a dress with Mirabel (from the new Disney movie Encanto) on it? Maybe a suggestion to CI with their birthday EG?.

I read her letter, the english version is pretty well translated except the little part where she said that she made a decorations with the stones you sent her, the english version says "I can make.." but she actually made it and would like you to be able to see it.. She does give you lots of details about her life and yes the unicorn dress is great for her and unicorns in general are very popular amoung girls..

What a wonderful way to celebrate human mythology. The spirit of Unicorn lives on everywhere with no boundaries! National Unicorn Day is celebrated on April 9th each year here in Scotland as it's the national animal. Great to know she made the stone artwork, it was little heavier than the rest went in that package to Mexico – thanks Marie.
