In July 2018, CI informed me that Juliana has participated in a financial literacy program – education about finances
(i.e. budgeting, saving money) plus a focus on children’s rights and responsibilities in their communities.
I wanted to find out about this from Juliana herself.
Me: Can you tell me what you have learned, and how your teachers and parents helped you saving money?
She: I'm happy to inform you that I am participating in CI program called "Aflatoun". I just want you to know that I have got a lot of lessons to be learned, especially when saving money, Aflatoun sees that saving and learning how to save and spend responsibly as a tool that helps children like me realize our rights.
Me: With the money saving lessons you learned from Aflatoun program, can you do a little experiment for me?
It works like this..
Find a transparent jar, so you can put small stones inside, one per day. Give a value (say) 1 peso to first stone, and then each day compare the size of your new stone to the first one and give a value. For example, if the second stone is one and half bigger than the first stone, its value is 1.5 pesos. Likewise, draw a picture of the stone and write down the value of each stone that goes in the jar, and when you next write to me tell me how many stones you have added and the total value. Once you have saved enough, I can send you a gift in exchange of the stones (which you can throwaway and repeat the experiment) – how does it sound?
She: (I just received her response below – letter added to My Media)
Me: You are so enthusiastic and cooperative in your social and financial learning with me! Thank you for your invaluable time and input.
She: I’m your Aflatot
Wow, chelaka, what a super experiment you suggested for Juliana. And what a great way for a child of any age to see the long-term value of saving a little every day. Her response was terrific and she's excited about doing this with you. Kudos!

That's a great idea! It's another great thing about this board - learning from things that other sponsors try!
