SAHAY is back..!

MSC archived stories - March 31, 2024

I do not know how they did it... website is back up running once again with new breath of life – http://sahaywb.in

Immensely proud Agency Director, Kolkata turning the challenge into a meaningful pursuit of "cluster operation" – youtu.be/JQiWK7ON6bM

What that means in terms of Community Center model remains to be seen, like will the Central office at Hazra Community Center and the Youth Resource Center be the focal points of CI-Kolkata?

Well done staff... a sigh of relief!

  1. Yes, Chelaka, “Well done staff… a sigh of relief!” There are two wonderful videos on the site. The first highlights The Youth Resource Center in Kolkata and the second, an explanation of how they developed the Cluster Site model in rural areas (edit, although as of 5/27/2024, Google Maps has changed their description of Children International SAHAY Hooghly Cluster Office to “Permanently Closed”.) There are many scenes of what environment looks like and of admirable youth and staff engaged with Children International. Please watch!!!

  2. I loved the 3 questions displayed on plaque in Youth Lounge at the YRC – What barriers and limitations will you overcome? – What impact will you make? – How will you help others achieve their goals?

  3. Thanks for the heads-up, Chelaka! This looks like a brand-new website for Sahay, but I note a connection to Children International in the email address at the top of the page. It remains to be seen how the change will affect the sponsor-child relationship. Hopefully all our sponsored children are still in the program. The website refers to Sahay's focus on children up to the age of ... 24. I can't wait to hear CI's official announcement!

  4. We’re as thrilled as you that the Kolkata website is up and running. Please note that we are currently still in the test phase, and we won’t have any additional information until the end of April. The situation remains fluid, but we are hopeful! All India sponsors: stay tuned for the update at the end of the month. As always, thank you for your patience!

  5. @Elemay: Website address hasn't changed but a revamp. While it was down about a week ago the site URL taken over by a different company, so was just about to delete it from my favourites but wanted to have a final look over the weekend. It was a complete surprise to me, how Sahay made it through and then able to recover the same URL. (btw, SAHAY is acronym for "Social Action to Help All Young") Regarding age 24, I remember discussing it in 2019, to do with CI post impact assessment of the program – [www.children.org/MySocialCenter/messageboard/!content/Make-a-Difference/data-driven-programs#uPAMyQM5R2e4y_8AAKKRFw]

Pause for Thought! – The value of sponsorship

MSC archived stories - March 2, 2019 As we know the sponsorship does not demand us to write, send special needs or extra gifts to our children, but being a "silent" sponsor does your monthly contribution bring real value (for money) – especially if you live outside the USA, you or CI don't even get tax benefits of your charitable donation? Is this because most sponsors can't afford anymore than the monthly fee to sponsor a child or trust CI so much that they do not feel needing to play an active role in their sponsored child(ren)'s lives to have an impact?   The sponsorship rewards both sponsor and the child through exchange of letters. Then we have social media platforms, like MSC to share our experiences with fellow sponsors – all can be done for free and bring closer understanding of each other and building friendships for life!   But above all sponsorship motivates your child to attend their community center more often not only for letter reading/writing but a...

As the 2022 draws to a close..

My life devoted to helping the children of this world started exactly 17 years ago on this day with Children International. Initially I was looking for a child sponsorship program through UK based organisation because every $ or £ I donate the UK government would have added 25% on top (as opposed to less Income Tax taken off from your earnings in the USA). In other words, living and working in the UK, yet supporting a charity outside the country won't have any tax benefits to either myself or CI. It was a big decision for me personally. I did my research and decided to go with CI and another international program based here for a year just to compare the services. CI stood up to my expectations despite losing that extra governmental support. It was very different or (should I say) the golden time of this organisation. Today, my sponsorship world spans across 3 continents with CI and 3 other local NGOs based in Bhutan and Sri Lanka. In fact my Bhutanese sponsorship inspired by a sto...

Visit to Mundo Petapa

After our long awaited reunion voyage, I thought taking back down the memory lane to remember times of joy CI sponsorship brought to us all. The younger sister, Nicole, niece, grandmother and the parents joined Estephanie to celebrate her 9th birthday anniversary at Mundo Petapa , an amusement park in Guatemala City. This park was inaugurated over four decades ago. There the family discovered various fun activities, especially being enjoyed by the father gave enormous boost to excitement, along with a break for the main event in the cafeteria – what a memorable day made possible by the staff at CI Mariscal! (photos added to my SCS blog ) As I learn about the family closely now, they are not just fun loving but well known and respected in the community. I'm full of admiration for their advocacy by getting children involved in every aspect of life. And Estephanie being 'ahijada' (goddaughter) is a very special honor any sponsor can ever dreamed for. Today, my care in h...
